We could all see the Murray Uiver slowly moving back, but now all the water was gone . I couldn’t believe that the Murray had dried up, not one drop of water left.
One morning I went down to the river to try and catch some fish when I saw my boat high and dry (擱淺) on the bank . I rushed down the river and saw all mud—no water . The fish were just lying there, dying . I looked up to see if my friend was there . There was the nest but no eagle(鷹). I called out to her with my special whistle which I made out of steel.
Suddenly a big shadow came over to me and the eagle landed in her nest and gave her young the food she was out getting while I whistled. But then I suddenly noticed she was getting thinner and had a bit of sheep’s wool in the side of her talon(利爪). It was deadly quiet by the river bank , except for some sound from my dog. And also I couldn’t see one native animal or bird.
When I walked inside the kitchen. Mum and Dad had sad looks on their faces. “It’s time for us to move ,Son, because the river can no longer provide for(養活)us,” said Dad . I ran out of the kitchen door with tears in my eyes , and down to the river bank, to my favorite spot. I said goodbye to my eagle , crying.
When it was time to go , I saw my eagle fly up into the air with her chicks in her talons , going away to try and find another home ,just like us.

Lots of students shop to reduce stress or just to kill time with their friends. Shopping to get rid of boredom or to escape from life’s pressures may lead to serious problems. When you start to shop out of control, you become a shopping addict.
Shopping addicts show signs that are similar to other addicts. Some students think that shopping, even as little as buying gifts for classmates, can make them feel better and forget their problems. Actually, it can make them feel worse, guilty, or even cause them to run into financial difficulties. Finding yourself in a financial struggle or deep in debt may harm your relationships with friends and parents.
Do you go shopping for just a few things and come home with your wallet empty? Do you always go shopping after an emotional trauma or when life feels tough(艱難的)? Do you regret later what you buy? Or do you buy things that you never use? Maybe your parents or friends have expressed disagreement that leads you to hide items or lie about prices.
Avoid any environment that may make you want to spend money. Never use credit cards. Form some other meaningful and beneficial hobbies. Exercise, yoga and hot baths generally may help you not want to shop. Take a drive through the country where there aren’t any stores. Have patience with yourself and your money, which can benefit you for the rest of your life.

If you want to take the whole family on holiday, and keep everybody happy, then I have found just the place for you. I recently went with a group of friends to stay at the Greenwood Holiday Village, which is open from May until October.
Built in the centre of a forest, Greenwood is a great place to stay whatever the weather is like. Its main attraction for families is the indoor World of Water, where young and old can have fun in the different pools. Some of these, however, are for serious swimmers only.
For sporty people, the Country Club offers tennis, squash and badminton. If your children are too young to join in these sports, there are activity clubs. Greenwood is a good place for families as it is traffic-free-you explore on foot or by bike. Some people complained that this was inconvenient, but I was pleased to be out in the fresh air. For evening entertainment, there are shows and cinemas.
Accommodation is in a variety of apartments of different sizes. These have up to four bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom, as well as a dining area. Before going, I thought the apartments might not be big enough for all of us, but I was pleasantly surprised ― it was not too crowded at all.

A wife’s level of education positively influences both her own and her husband’s chances of having a long life, according to a new Swedish study.
In the study, researchers from the Swedish Institute for Social Research in Stockholm found that a woman’s level of education had a stronger connection to the likelihood of her husband dying over education. What’s more, they discovered that a husband’s social class, based on his occupation,  had a greater influence on his wife’s longevity(長壽)than her own class.
“Women traditionally take more responsibility for the home than men do, and, as a consequence, women’s levels of education might be more important for determining lifestyles-for example, in terms of food choices-than those of men,” say Srs. Robert Erikson and Jenny Torssander of the Swedish Institute for Social Research in Stockholm.
The results show that a husband’s level of education does not influence his longevity, but that men with partners who had quit studying after school were 25 per cent more likely to die early than men living with women hodling university degrees. In turn, those married to women with university degrees were 13 per cent more likely to die early than those whose wives had post-graduate qualifications.
According to the researchers, a woman with a good education may not marry a man who drinks and smokes too much or who drivers carelessly, and men with such habits may not prefer highly educated woman. Drs. Erikson and Torssander also suggest that better-educated woman may be more aware of what healthy eating and good health care consist of.
The findings suggest that education has a huge impact on how long and how well people live. It also reflects social factors, since educated individuals usually have better jobs, which allow them to afford healthier diets and lifestyles, as well as better health care.
68. In this passage the author intends to_______.
A. encourage women to get higher education
B. present the results of a study.
C. analyze the relationship between education and life
D. discuss why women usually live longer than men

A. women make more sacrifices to their families than men do

C. most men marry women with higher degrees
D. women have a leading role in the home life of most families
70. A woman with higher education is likely to_____.
A. choose a husband with a higher degree than hers.
B. marry a man without many bad habits
C. earn more money than her husband
D. teach her children well
71. We learn from the passage that_______.
A. a man with a lot of education live longer than one with little.
B. a man’s longevity depends on not only his wife’s level of education but also his own.
C. educated wives tend to choose healthy lifestyles for their families.

Fire can help people in many ways. But it can be very dangerous. Fire can heat water, warm houses, give light and cook. But fire can burn things, too. It can burn trees, houses, animals or people. Sometimes big fire can burn forests.
Nobody knows for sure how people began to use fire. But there are many interesting stories about the first time a man or a woman started a fire. One story from Australia tells about a man very, very long time ago. He went up to the sun by a rope (繩子) and brought fire down.
Today people know how to make a fire with matches (火柴). Children sometimes like to play with them. But matches can be very dangerous. One match can burn a piece of paper, and then it might burn a house. A small fire can become a big fire very fast. Fire kills many people every year. So you must be careful with matches.
