A sleepover (在外過(guò)夜的聚會(huì)) at Legoland Discovery Centre, at the Trafford Centre in Manchester, may sound like the perfect place to host your child's next birthday party — but it will set parents back more than £1,000.

All rides — Kingdom Quest Laser Ride, Merlin's Apprentice and Lego City Forest Pursuit — are open during the evening and supervision (監(jiān)管) on these rides is provided at all times. The Lego Studios 4D Cinema is also open and guests have exclusive use of the Lego construction play area until 10:00 pm, which means you will have a good time and don't need to share any facilities with other groups.

But at £35 a head, with a minimum guest list of 30, it's unlikely to be something the average parent could afford, reports Manchester Evening News.

A Legoland spokesman said: "The sleepover package is aimed at groups such as boys between eight and ten, girls between six and eight and youth groups, however it is open to everyone within the terms of the offer. " There is a birthday room to use, and in regard to food, snack boxes can be purchased for the additional cost of £4.50. Guests are also welcome to bring along their own food and drinks, and there are storage facilities where they can be kept.

"Also we do have daytime party packages available, which are £15 per child midweek and £18 per child at the weekend. But these packages have a policy of a minimum of nine and a maximum of 21 people, due to room capacity. "

The spokesman continued, "Included in the price for these parties is the birthday cake, and children's meal of sandwiches, crisps, fruit juice, fruit and Haribo sweets. All attending adults also get a free hot drink and the birthday child gets a free group photograph."

Legoland says that the pricing for the sleepover package is based on overall operating costs of opening the centre exclusively for the group.

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源:2015-2016年河北大名、永年、磁縣、邯鄲縣高一下期中聯(lián)考英語(yǔ)卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

More and more people are aware that an afternoon nap(小睡) can do a body good. But there are still doubters out there. To help spread the power of the afternoon nap, we list some common misunderstandings about napping we still hear.

Misunderstanding # 1 : Napping is only for the lazy.

Fact: Around a third of American adults nap on the average day, and for good reason: A short nap can improve everything from alertness(警覺(jué)) and memory to creativity and productivity(生產(chǎn)效率). And none of these sounds like laziness to us!

Misunderstanding # 2 : If I take a nap, I’ll only wake up feeling worse.

Fact: That weak feeling after you wake up from a nap is real (it even has a name: sleep inertia), but it’s not a guarantee(保證). How you feel after your nap is a factor of how long you sleep. Experts generally agree that a nap should last no longer than 30 minutes. “If it takes longer than 30 minutes, you end up in deep sleep. You’re going into a stage of sleep where you find it very difficult to wake up.” said sleep expert Michael J. Breus, Ph. D. Next time you’re in the mood for a nap, set your alarm for 20 to 30 minutes, tops.

Misunderstanding # 3 : You mustn’t nap at work.

Fact: In fact, in the office environment, we’re all for catching a few winks (眨眼) during the workday. Some companies have even created special rooms for afternoon naps as more and more employers come around to the idea that a well-rested workforce is a more productive workforce. If your employer doesn’t offer a place to lay your head, try to find an empty conference room where you can close the door and turn off the lights. Really want. You can also take a nap during your lunch break on a park bench or in your car.

Misunderstanding # 4 : I’ll be more productive if I just finish this task, rather than waste time sleeping.

Fact: Yes, you’ll be away from your desk if you spend 10 to 30 minutes sleeping. But you’ll likely make up for that “wasted” time afterward. “My research shows that people feel tired after a long time of work during the day,” Sara Mednick told Bloomberg Businessweek. “It’s difficult to keep energetic and productive all day.” However, a nap can leave you feeling refreshed and more ready to deal with the task at hand.

1.According to the passage, a short nap has the following benefits EXCEPT .

A. making people think more quickly

B. improving people’s memory

C. allowing old people to live longer

D. raising people’s work efficiency

2.How you feel after your nap is connected with ________.

A. the way of sleep B. the place of sleep

C. the environment of sleep D. the length of sleep

3.Sara Mednick indicates that _________.

A. taking a short nap at work is a waste of time

B. people become less productive without a nap

C. people become less productive after a nap

D. napping is only for the lazy and young children

4.Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

A. The advantages of taking a nap.

B. The more naps you take, the more productive you become.

C. 4 things people get wrong about napping.

D. How to take an afternoon nap correctly.

A year after graduation, I was offered a position teaching a writing class. Teaching was a profession I had never seriously considered, though several of my stories had been published. I accepted the job without hesitation, as it would allow me to wear a tie and go by the name of Mr. Davis. My father went by the same name, and I liked to imagine people getting the two of us confused. “Wait a minute” someone might say, “are you talking about Mr. Davis the retired man, or Mr. Davis the respectable scholar?”

The position was offered at the last minute, and I was given two weeks to prepare, a period I spent searching for briefcase (公文包) and standing before my full-length mirror, repeating the words, “Hello, class. I’m Mr. Davis.” Sometimes I would give myself an aggressive voice. Sometimes I would sound experienced. But when the day eventually came, my nerves kicked in and the true Mr. Davis was there. I sounded not like a thoughtful professor, but rather a 12-year-old boy.

I arrived in the classroom with paper cards designed in the shape of maple leaves. I had cut them myself out of orange construction paper. I saw nine students along a long table. I handed out the cards, and the students wrote down their names and fastened them to their breast pockets as I required.

“All right then,” I said. “Okay, here we go.” Then I opened my briefcase and realized that I had never thought beyond this moment. I had been thinking that the students would be the first to talk, offering their thoughts and opinions on the events of the day. I had imagined that I would sit at the edge of the desk, overlooking a forests of hands. Every student would yell. “Calm down, you’ll all get your turn. One at a time, one at a time!”

A terrible silence ruled the room, and seeing no other opinions, I inspected the students to pull out their notebooks and write a brief essay related to the theme of deep disappointment.

1. The author took the job to teach writing because ______.

A. he wanted to be expected

B. he had written some storied

C. he wanted to please his father

D. he had dreamed of being a teacher

2. What can we learn about the author from Paragraph 2?

A. He would be aggressive in his first class.

B. He was well-prepared for his first class.

C. He got nervous upon the arrival of his first class.

D. He waited long for the arrival of his first class.

A. write down their suggestions on the paper cards

Whatever your career, and whatever your goals in life are, ideas are going to matter to you. One great idea could change your life. The thing is, you probably don’t have as many great ideas as you’d like. Perhaps you feel unimaginative and unoriginal. You keep hoping that a really good idea will just pop into your head, but that never seems to happen. The good news? Ideas aren’t magic dust sprinkled by the Muses. There’s an awful lot you can do to generate ideas any time you want.

First, you need time to come up with ideas – and quality time, where you’re not worrying about the chores or your emails. Getting quality time ideally means taking a whole day away from your regular responsibilities. Go out to a coffee shop with a notebook, or shut yourself in a room at home without internet access. Get a zoomed-out view of your life: set aside worries about “but what would people think?” and “is it sensible?” and let yourself dream. You’ll be amazed what you come up with.

Ever had an idea which you immediately dismissed? You probably told yourself “That’s stupid,” or “It’s been done before.”When you’re generating ideas and thinking through possibilities, you’ll inevitably come up with a few false starts. Some ideas will be unoriginal, undesirable or unworkable. But that’s not a bad thing. One idea often leads to a whole train of thought – and you might end up with a really good idea from something which seemed, at first glance, unpromising.

Although I’m a bit of an introvert – I like to spend a fair amount of time on my own – I also get a great buzz from being with like-minded people and discussing ideas and projects with them. You’ve probably experienced something similar yourself – maybe in a brainstorming meeting at work, or maybe just at a bar with friends. The energy generated by several people together can spark some brilliant ideas – ones which you’d never have come up with alone. How do you find like-minded people to bounce ideas off? You could try: Local groups, such as evening classes; Getting together with a couple of friends who “get” your dreams; Finding an online forum of people with the same interest or goals as you.

Ideas don’t just appear in a vacuum. They’re formed from all the various input that you take in. Sometimes, a news story might give you the perfect idea for a Christmas present for your sister, or a book that you’re reading might get you thinking about a particular goal in your life. The more widely you read, the more open you’ll be to new ideas cropping up. That might mean reading a magazine or journal article that’s far outside your normal area of expertise, or turning to a biography of someone who you know almost nothing about.A great place to start is online: blogs, news sites, forums and even Twitter and Facebook are all a rich source of ideas, just waiting for you.

How do you come up with great ideas? And is there a particular area of your life where you feel like you’re lacking inspiration?

How to come up with great ideas—all the time

1._____quality time to think

Getting ideal quality time means 2.____aside worries about your regular 3.____ such as the housework or your emails and letting yourself dream for some time.

Talk to other like-minded people

Talking with people who 8.______ the same interest or goals with you can inspire some brilliant ideas. You can find such people at work, at a bar, in evening classes or on an online forum.

Read widely

Conclusion

Whatever your career, and whatever your goals in life are, ideas are of 10.____ to you.
