A strong wind can be a dangerous thing―sometimes it is powerful enough to knock you off your feet．But to plants，the wind is a source of new life，carrying them or their spores(孢子) thousands of miles．
A NASA satellite called QuikSCAT has discovered highways of wind over the Earth's oceans．Scientists believe these invisible roads may explain why many nonflowering plants，such as mosses(苔)and lichens(地衣)，grow where they do．

The“For Sale”signs are just starting to grow, but already experts worry that this spring home-buying season will be even tougher than the last．
Despite tentative signs of recovery in hard-hit areas like California and Florida，the broader housing market is far from reaching bottom, economists say．Across much of the nation, prices are likely to keep falling into 2010．

Chinese researchers have developed a strategy that reduces the transmission of the parasitic illness schistosomiasis(血吸蟲病)，known as“Snail Fever”，which affects an estimated 207 million people in rural parts of Asia and Africa．Experts say drugs alone do not work very well to control the disease．
The researchers are reporting in The New England Journal of Medicine that they have developed a strategy to reduce infections of the hard to control parasitic disease．
Experts say schistosomiasis can be a life-long illness that causes severe malnutrition(營(yíng)養(yǎng)不良) and anemia(貧血癥)．The infection occurs when human skin comes in contact with water contaminated(被污染的)with certain types of snails that carry eggs called schistosomcs．A vicious cycle begins when infected humans urinate(排尿) or defecate(排便)into the water and release the schistosomes，which mature into snails that lay eggs that infect others．
Standard treatment for the parasitic disease is a drug called praziquantel．
But international health professor Charles King of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland，Ohio says the drug is not enough to eliminate the disease from communities because schistosomiasis is a cyclical disease．
“You treat the infection today，but if it comes back next year，that person will go on and get into that vicious cycle of illness，”he said．“So what they are reporting in this article is an attempt to go to a community and find out，’Exactly what does it take to really stop transmission?’And I think that is a really exciting move forward in this particular field．”

Weighing the pros and cons，I think if a student is really self-motivated and working hard，it makes no difference whether to cancel the division of science and arts．
