閱讀理解。

     閱讀下面短文,并根據(jù)短文后的要求答題(請注意問題后的字?jǐn)?shù)要求).
Modern inventions have speeded up people's lives amazingly. Motor cars cover a hundred miles
in lithe more than an hour, aircraft cross the world inside a day, while computers operate at lightning
speed. Indeed, this love of speed seems never ending. Every year motor cars are produced which g
o even faster and each new computer boasts(吹噓)of saving precious seconds in handling tasks.
All this saves time, but at a price. When we lose or gain half a day in speeding across the world in
an airplane, our bodies tell us so. We get the uncomfortable feeling known as j et lag; our bodies
feel that they have been left behind in another time zone. Again, spending too long at computers results
in painful wrists and fingers. Mobile phones also                    ,according to some scientists;too much
use may put harmful radiation into our brains,a consequence we do not like to think about.
However, what do we do with the time we have saved? Certainly not relax,or so it seems. We are
so accustomed to constant activity that we find it difficult to sit and do nothing or even just one thing at
a time. Perhaps the days are long gone when we might listen quietly to a story on the radio, letting
imagination take us into another world.
There was a time when some people's lives were devoted simply to the cultivation(耕耘)of the land
or the care of cattle. No multi tasking there;their lives went on at a much gentler pace, and in a familiar
pattern. There is much that we might envy about a way of life like this. Yet before we do so,we must
think of the hard tasks our ancestors faced:they farmed with bare hands, often lived close to hunger, and
had to make tools from wood and stone. Modern machinery has freed people from that primitive
existence.
1. What's the passage mainly about?(within 10 words)

2. List the difficulties our ancestors met according to the text. (within 15 words)

3. Fill in the blank in the 2nd paragraph with proper words or phrases.

4. Why do we make new products more and more time-saving according to Paragraph 1 of this passage?

5. Translate the underlined sentence in the 3rd paragraph into Chinese.

1.  Modern technology and its influence.
2. ①farming with bare hands.
    ②living close to hunger.
③making tools from wood and stone.
3. have their danger/ have bad effects on us
4. Because our love of speed seems never ending.

第一節(jié)    閱瀆理解(共15小題;每小題2分,滿分30分)

閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的A、B、C和D項中,選出最佳選項并在答題卡上將該項涂黑。

It all began with a stop at a red light.

Philanthropy Kevin Salwen, a writer and entrepreneur in Atlanta, was driving his 14-year-old daughter, Hannah, back from a sleepover in 2006. While waiting at a traffic light, they saw a black Mercedes coupe on one side and a homeless man begging for food on the other.

“Dad, if that man had a less nice car, that man there could have a meal,” Hannah protested. The light changed and they drove on, but Hannah was too young to be reasonable. She pestered (糾纏) her parents about inequity, insisting that she wanted to do something.

“What do you want to do?” her mom responded. “Sell our house?”

Warning! Never suggest a grand gesture to an idealistic teenager. Hannah seized upon the idea of selling the luxurious family home and donating half the money to charity, while using the other half to buy a more modest replacement home.

Eventually, that’s what the family did. The project — crazy, impetuous (魯莽) and utterly inspiring — is written down in detail in a book by father and daughter scheduled to be published next month: “The Power of Half.” It’s a book that, frankly, I’d be nervous about leaving around where my own teenage kids might find it. An impressionable child reads this, and the next thing you know your whole family is out on the street.

At a time of enormous needs in Haiti and elsewhere, when so many Americans are trying to help Haitians by sending everything from text messages to shoes, the Salwens offer an example of a family that came together to make a difference — for themselves as much as the people they were trying to help. In a column a week ago, I described neurological(神經(jīng)學(xué)的) evidence from brain scans that unselfishness lights up parts of the brain normally associated with more primary satisfaction such as food and sex. The Salwens’ experience confirms the selfish pleasures of selflessness.

Mr. Salwen and his wife, Joan, had always assumed that their kids would be better off in a bigger house. But after they downsized, there was much less space to retreat to, so the family members spent more time around each other. A smaller house unexpectedly turned out to be a more family-friendly house.

41. The best title of the passage should be__________.

A. The less , the better.             B. An unexpected satisfaction

C. Something we can live without    D. Somewhat crazy but inspiring

42. What does the word “inequity” most probably mean in the sentence?

A. unfairness     B. satisfaction      C. personal attitude    D. reasonable statement

43.The sentence “An impressionable child reads this, and the next thing you know your whole family is out on the street.” means _____.

A. When an unreasonable child reads the book, their house will disappear.

B. When an unreasonable child reads the book, he will ask his parents to sell their house.

C. When an unreasonable child reads this, the whole family will enjoy themselves in the street.

D. The child who likes to express himself will ask the whole family to enjoy the book outside.

44.Which of the following statements is true?

A. Mercedes coupe is only an ordinary car which is quite cheap.

B. Hannah asked her parents to do something charitable and they sold their house.

C. Unselfishness has nothing to do with people’s primary satisfaction.

D. Hannah’s parents felt regretted having sold the big house.

45.“Never suggest a grand gesture to an idealistic teenager.” means__________.

A. Never give a quick answer to an idealistic teenager.

B. Don’t respond to a child’s demands firmly without consideration.

C. Give an answer if the child is reasonable.

D. Unless the child is realistic otherwise never give an answer immediately

閱讀—列短文,從每題所給的A、B、C和D項中,選出最佳選項,并在答題卡上將該項涂黑。

Without most people realizing it, there has been a revolution in office work over the last ten years. Before that time, large computers were only used by large, rich companies that could afford the investment. With the advancement of technology, small computers have come onto the market, which are capable of doing the work that used to be done by much larger and expensive computers, so now most smaller companies can use them

The main development in small computers has been in the field of word processors (處理器) , or WPS as they are often called. 40% of British offices are now estimated to have a word processor and this percentage is growing fast.

There are many advantages in using a word processor for both secretary and manager. The secretary is freed from a lot of daily work, such as re-typing letters and storing papers. He or she can use this time to do other more interesting work for the boss. From a manager’s point of view, secretarial time is being made better use of and money can be saved by doing daily jobs automatically outside office hours.

But is it all good? If a lot of daily secretarial work can be done automatically, surely this will mean that fewer secretaries will be needed. Another worry is the increasing medical problems related to work with visual display units (顯示器). The case of a slow loss of sight among people using word processors seems to have risen greatly. It is also feared that if a woman works at a VDU for long hours, the unborn child in her body might be killed. Safety screens to put over a VDU have been invented but few companies in England bother to buy them.

Whatever the arguments for and against word processor, they are a key feature (特征) of this revolution in office practice.

41. Ten years ago, smaller companies did not use large computers because_________.

       A. these companies had not enough money to buy such expensive computers

     B. these computers could not do the work that small computers can do today

     C. these computers did not come onto the market

     D. these companies did not need to use this new technology

42. According to the writer, the main feature of the revolution in office work over the last

  ten years is __________.

    A. the saving of time and money

       B. the use of computers in small companies

     C. the wide use of word processors

D. the decreasing number of secretaries

43. It is implied but not directly stated in the passage that with the use of word processors

  _________.

   A. some secretaries will lose their jobs

   B. daily jobs can be done automatically outside office hours

   C. medical problems related to work with a VDU have increased greatly

   D. the British companies will make less money

44. Which of the following statements is NOT true?

   A. There are both advantages and disadvantages in using a word processor.

   B. The British companies care much for the health of the people using word processors.

   C. The technology in the field of computers has been greatly advanced over the last

ten years.

   D. Using word processors, secretaries can get more time to do more interesting work

      for their bosses.

45. It can be concluded from the passage that ________.

   A. safety screens are of poor quality

   B. working at a VDU for a long time is good for one’s health

   C. more and more British offices will use word processors

   D. British companies will need fewer and fewer managers
