A friend of mine named Paul received an expensive car from his brother as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve when Paul came out of his office, a street urchin(頑童) was walking around the shining car. “Is this your car, Paul?” he asked.
Paul answered, “Yes, my brother gave it to me for Christmas.” The boy was surprised. “You mean your brother gave it to you and it didn't cost you nothing? Boy, I wish…” he hesitated.
Of course Paul knew what he was going to wish for. He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what the boy said surprised Paul greatly.
“I wish,” the boy went on, “that I could be a brother like that.” Paul looked at the boy in surprise, and then he said again, “Would you like to take a ride in my car?” “Oh yes, I'd love that.”
After a short ride, the boy turned and with his eyes shining, said, “Paul, would you mind driving in front of my house?”
Paul smiled a little. He thought he knew what the boy wanted. He wanted to show his neighbors that he could ride home in a big car. But Paul was wrong again. “Will you stop where those two steps are?” the boy asked.
He ran up to the steps. Then in a short while Paul heard him coming back, but he was not coming fast. He was carrying his little crippled brother. He sat him down on the step and pointed to the car.
“There she is, Buddy, just like I told you upstairs. His brother gave it to him for Christmas and it didn't cost him a cent. And some day I'm going to give you one just like it… then you can see for yourself all the nice things in the Christmas window that I've been trying to tell you about.”
Paul got out and lifted the boy to the front seat of his car. The shining-eyed older brother climbed in beside him and the three of them began an unforgettable holiday ride.

Scientists think that a game like bowing was played in Egypt thousands of years ago.
Toys that look like a ball and bowling pins were found buried with a child who died around 5200 B. C.
People who study history know that the game was popular in Germany around 200~300 A. D. It was played by people in some churches in order to show that they were good Christians. When people bowled poorly, they had to go to church more often.
The first bowling place built inside a building opened in England in 1455. Then the game was taken to the United States where most people played it outside.
During the 1800s, many people in the United States began to bowl for money, so several cities made the game illegal. Many people kept on bowling illegally. A group named the American Bowling Congress (ABC) began around 1900. The job of this group was to clean up bowling and make it a gentlemen's game again.
At this time, the game was mostly played by men. If women played, they hung a curtain up so that the men were not able to see them.
Then, in 1916, a woman's group named the Women's International Bowling Congress (WIBC) made a point of showing that the game was fine for both men and women.

Most Americans don't like to get advice from members of their family. They get advice from “strangers”. When they need advice, they don't usually ask people they know. Instead many of them write letters to newspapers and magazines which give advice on many different subjects including family problems, the use of language, health, cooking, child care, clothes, and even on how to buy a house or a car.

One of them answers letters written to “Dear Abby”. The other is addressed as “Dear Ann Landers”. Experience is their preparation for giving advice.
There is one writer who has not lived long enough to have much experience. She is a girl named Angel Gavaliere, who started writing advice for newspaper readers at the age of ten. Her advice to young readers now appears regularly in a column called DEAR ANGEL in the Philadelphia Bulletin.
So people often say Americans get advice from strangers.

Some people say stories like these are lies or coincidences. Others, including some scientists say that ESP is true. Form studies of ESP, we may some day learn more about the human mind.
